John Chisholm (archbishop of Melanesia)

John Wallace Chisholm, (14 September 1923 — 24 May 1975) was an Australian divine who served as the tenth Anglican Bishop of Melanesia〔(Anglican history )〕 and first Archbishop of the Province of Melanesia. He was educated at Trinity College, University of Melbourne“Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 and ordained in 1947. His first post was as a Curate at St Stephen’s, Rochester Row, Westminster〔(Church web site )〕 after which he was Sub-Dean of the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, Dogura, Papua and New Guinea.〔(John biographical entry at Solomon Islands Encyclopaedia )〕 From 1964 to 1967 he was an Auxiliary Bishop of New Guinea 〔''Crockford's Clerical Directory 1975-76'' London: Oxford University Press, 1976 ISBN 0-19-200008-X〕 when he became Bishop of Melanesia,〔(Consecration details )〕 a post he held until 1975 when the Diocese of Melanesia became a province. He died shortly after his appointment as Primate.〔(Project Canterbury )〕
